A Childhood on Hold

A young child spends day and night in traction, relying on equipment that has repeatedly failed her. Her family has been left to improvise the supports she needs just to sleep, sit, and move.

She faces the prospect of another year or two in traction. Her family needs dependable equipment to support her treatment and protect her chance to move more freely as she grows.

We want to work with her family and care team to build properly fitted supports for her bed, walker, and wheelchair. The goal is to make daily life less painful and give her more room for play, family, and being a child.

The Everyday Things He Wants Back

A stroke took away the use of one arm and much of the strength in one leg. Getting out of bed, brushing his teeth, and moving around now depend on help. His walker cannot give him the support he needs to stand by himself.

We want to adapt it so he can rise with one arm and greater stability. For him, that is a path toward doing ordinary things for himself again, while easing the repeated lifting his wife and daughter shoulder each day.

A Chance to Learn to Walk

She loves singing and the ocean. But a child with cerebral palsy needs more help to practice the movements that other children learn without thinking. Her family has explored large orthopedic systems, searching for something affordable that can adapt as she grows.

We want to develop a wearable that senses her movements and provides physical cues during gait practice. Working with her family and medical team, the hope is to give her more opportunity to learn to walk and build independence.

When Sitting Means Constant Pain

She can move just one finger. Multiple sclerosis has left her dependent on her wheelchair, and constant pain has become harder to bear as sciatica adds another source of suffering. Her seating cannot adapt as her support needs change.

We want to develop a cushion that can be reshaped around her body, again and again. The goal is to ease pressure and pain so she can spend more of her day with loved ones, instead of simply enduring it.
