Back the Devices People Actually Need
Healthcare and insurance systems cover only a fraction of the assistive technology disabled individuals need. The commercial market cannot fill the gap because it builds for broad categories, not individual bodies and lives. A hospital-style wheelchair captures the problem: designed to move nearly anyone through an institution, but to fit no one person’s body, home, work, or daily life.
The Menderi is developing a public crowdfunding platform where disabled individuals, families, nonprofits, community groups, and professional teams can raise funds for devices too specific, new, or unconventional for existing systems to support. The platform is designed to give these projects global reach, connecting local needs with donors, technical collaborators, and fabrication support across borders.
Each campaign will present the need, intended outcome, development stage, collaborators, technical plan, budget, funding model, milestones, and commitment to sharing completed work.

From Proposal to Working Project

Define
Establish the project scope, collaborators, technical requirements, budget, milestones, and funding structure.

Fund
Invite the public and Menderi Community to support the project. Funding models will vary based on the project and its intended outcome.

Build and Report
Share progress, decisions, prototypes, challenges, and outcomes through the campaign page and connected Community workspace.
Support Across Borders
Campaigns may support disabled individuals and local organizations in low-resource or crisis-affected regions where assistive technology, replacement parts, skilled fabrication, or reliable supply chains are limited.
Projects can fund personalized devices, local production, repair capacity, open designs, and humanitarian deployments. Rather than exporting standardized equipment, the platform is designed to support locally led work shaped by available materials, regional conditions, repair capacity, and accountable on-the-ground partners.
The Menderi’s Role
The Menderi will host the platform and administer eligible funds through its fiscal sponsor, the Victor Pineda Foundation.
Depending on the project, The Menderi may also serve as an optional design, fabrication, or project-management partner.
Campaigns may begin with a model from the Open Device Library, an assembly developed through Mendr AI, or a proposal created through Menderi Community.
When licensing and participant consent allow, completed models and build information can return to the Open Device Library for adaptation and reuse.
